Project Description

We are improving pavement conditions on OR 39 between milepost 273 and South 6th Street. Pavement conditions on this stretch of OR 39 are deteriorating and in need of repair.

In addition to repaving the roadway, we are building curb ramps that meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. We are also updating the traffic signal at the intersection of OR 39 and Esplanade Avenue. This signal is in poor condition and needs to be replaced. It also doesn't meet current ADA standards.  A new signal will better manage traffic and will improve safety at the intersection.

Expected Outcome

This project replaces the existing traffic signal at Oregon 39 and Esplanade Avenue with a modern, permanent signal that improves safety, accessibility, and traffic flow. The new signal will meet current ADA standards, including accessible pedestrian signals, improved crossing timing, and compliant curb ramps, making it safer and easier for people who walk or roll through the intersection. Updated detection and signal technology will allow the signal to respond to real-time traffic conditions, helping reduce delays and improve operations for drivers, transit users, bicyclists, and pedestrians.

Community Benefits

Access

The new traffic signal includes crossing improvements such as pedestrian signals, improved crossing timing and compliant curb ramps giving enhanced access to those who walk, bike and roll.
