Alternatives Development Process

Check list iconThe project team prepared an initial range of improvement options to help address both current and anticipated future geometric constraints, traffic operations and safety issues. These ideas were shaped by what was heard from the community, what the data showed and expert input from the project team.

The solutions then underwent a "fatal flaw" review to screen out ideas that were not reasonable, not feasible or did not meet the study goals and objectives. Because of this, the numbering of alternatives on the following pages may jump around. This allows the project team to track how alternatives evolve over time.

Alternatives are grouped into two categories:

  • Interim improvements: Projects and strategies that have potential to be implemented without reconstructing an interchange.
  • Long-term improvements: Project or strategy best implemented by reconstructing an interchange.
