Mobility is about creating a transportation system that works for everyone. By improving and expanding existing rail service, more people can enjoy the benefits of passenger rail.

Passenger rail connects people to jobs, education, healthcare and social services. It provides an option for people who can't or don't want to drive. This also results in fewer cars on the road.

Rail is a significant driver of Oregon's economy. It helps rural industries reach existing and new markets, supports agriculture and manufacturing and connects Oregon businesses to national and global supply chains.

Freight rail links Oregon to the world, while passenger rail supports local economies, tourism and vibrant communities around station areas.

Rail helps reduce shipping costs for Oregon's local industries like agriculture, forest products and manufacturing. Lower shipping costs help businesses compete in national and international markets.

Rail investments often spark local development, bringing new life to downtowns and station areas. It's an efficient way to move goods and spurs both commercial and residential growth.

Rail is one of the most energy-efficient ways to move people and goods. Freight and passenger rail can also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and address climate change.

For travelers, choosing passenger rail like Amtrak Cascades means cutting greenhouse gas emissions, one of the main drivers of climate change.

The average frieght train carries roughly 4,000 tons of cargo, the equivalent of nearly 145 semi-trucks. Freight trains emit 1/3 of the amount of greenhouse gases than the equivalent number of diesel trucks used to carry the same load.

Safety is the foundation of Oregon's rail system.

Every day, trains move people and goods safely across the state, and every day, we're focused on keeping communities safe.

At highway/rail crossings, features like gates, flashing lights and advanced signals are designed to reduce crashes and protect people who bike, walk, roll and drive.

Passenger trains are also one of the safest ways to travel. It’s far safer than driving and comparable to flying, offering peace of mind for families and commuters alike.
