About
This project will improve parts of U.S. Highway 97 (from milepost 91.58 to 97.00), U.S. Highway 26 (from milepost 116.40 to 117.71), and several local streets in the City of Madras. The main goals are to make travel safer for everyone, keep the highways in good condition, and upgrade stormwater systems.
The project will focus on the following improvements:
Repaving or rebuilding sections of U.S. 26 and U.S. 97, including parts of 4th and 5th Streets in downtown Madras
Fixing curb ramps that do not meet current standards, adding ramps where they’re missing, and installing new pedestrian signals at intersections
Filling in missing sidewalk sections and replacing damaged ones
Making downtown streets look nicer with curb extensions and rock buffer between the sidewalk and street
Upgrading traffic signals, including adding better sensors and improving network connections
Adding safer pedestrian crossings in different areas of the project zone
Improving stormwater systems, especially near U.S. 97 north of the U.S. 97/U.S. 26 junction and along 2nd and 3rd Streets
Making upgrades to three bridges, including new railings, bridge joints, and pavement
