About
Chandler Bridge is located on Oregon 241 (Coos River Highway), about two miles east of Coos Bay. It was built in 1952 and contains a lift span to allow maritime traffic to pass along the Coos River. About 1,700 vehicles cross the bridge on an average day.
Bridges along the southern Oregon coast are vulnerable to corrosion. The paint on Chandler Bridge is peeling, causing the steel underneath to rust.
This project will paint the steel truss section of the bridge, replace the lift-span tower ladders and access platforms, and upgrade the steel guardrail at each end of the bridge.
This work will protect the steel sections of the bridge from corrosion, extend its functional life, reduce long-term maintenance costs, and ensure that the lift span remains in good working condition. The new guardrail will help to improve safety for the traveling public.
