Overview
Architects currently registered or licensed in another Board-recognized jurisdiction may apply for reciprocal registration in Oregon.

Applicants must meet Oregon registration requirements and complete the Oregon Jurisprudence Exam before registration approval.
Registration Requirements
Applicants must possess an active architectural registration or license issued by another Board-recognized jurisdiction.
Applicants must also complete one of the following:
- Transmit an active National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) Certificate to OSBAE
- Submit official documentation demonstrating completion of Oregon registration requirements
Official documentation must be submitted directly to the Board by the granting authority.
Education Requirements
Applicants must have one of the following:
- A professional degree in architecture from a program accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) or the Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB)
- A professional degree in architecture from a Canadian university certified by the Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB)
Examination Requirements
Applicants must have successfully completed:
- The Architect Registration Examination (ARE)
- An examination recognized as equivalent to the ARE under the July 2025 NCARB Certification Guidelines

Experience Requirements
Applicants must complete one of the following:
- The NCARB Architectural Experience Program (AXP)
- Two years of architectural practice in a Board-recognized jurisdiction after initial registration or licensure
Additional Firm Registration Requirement
Architects providing architectural services under any name other than their individual name registered with the Board followed by the title “Architect” must also register as a firm with:
- OSBAE
- the Oregon Secretary of State
Examples may include:
- Sole proprietorships operating as LLCs
- Assumed business names
- Incorporated business entities
Registration Process
Step 1 — Submit NCARB Certificate or Required Documentation
Applicants must:
- Transmit an active NCARB Certificate
- Arrange for official documentation to be submitted to OSBAE
Documentation must include:
- Education records
- Examination records
- Experience verification
Step 2 — Submit the Application
Submit a completed Registration by Reciprocity Application to:
architectboard@osbae.oregon.gov
Applicants should keep copies of all submitted materials for their records.
Step 3 — Pay Applicable Fees
Applicants must pay:
- The Application Fee
- The Certificate of Registration Fee
Payment may be submitted:
Step 4 — Complete the Oregon Jurisprudence Exam (JE)
Applicants must pass the Oregon Jurisprudence Exam (JE).
Information regarding the Jurisprudence Exam will be provided after:
- Completion of the application
- Payment of the application fee via check or online.
