Take the Challenge; Give from Your Heart
Donate from your heart

Your health plans challenge you to give from the heart for the Governor’s Food Drive. They’ll donate a dollar for every PEBB member who tours their plans’ websites in February. The donations will go to food pantries in members’ ZIP-code areas.

Kaiser Permanente, Providence and ODS will donate up to $10,000 and Willamette pledges up to $1,000.

By using the plans’ websites, PEBB members can provide up to 100,000 meals for people in Oregon who don’t know where their next one’s coming from.

You benefit too when you give this way. You know more about your health, your health plans and your benefits. And you know you helped a neighbor in need.

Dependent Verification Project

This spring, members with dependents will be hearing from the Benefit Board’s consultant, Mercer Health and Benefits. The Board has asked Mercer to conduct a two-phase dependent verification project.

  • Phase 1: Mercer will send a letter to members who have enrolled dependents – children, spouses or domestic partners. The letter will request that members verify their dependents are eligible for benefits. Members will have four weeks to provide requested information and to remove dependents who are not eligible.

  • Phase 2: Mercer will then contact a randomly selected subset of members with enrolled dependents. These members will need to provide documentation that supports their dependents’ eligibility.

The project may identify dependents who are enrolled but who are not eligible. PEBB will remove these individuals from coverage the first of the following month.

This project will continue to supports the Board’s stewardship of employer, employee and public funds. It will also ensure that all members are treated equally under PEBB rules and that only eligible members receive benefits.

Know the Heart Truth
Heart Truth
Here’s the heart truth: Not only does heart disease kill more Americans than any other cause, it can severely impact their quality of life for many, many years. Yet most people fail to make the connection between known risk factors for heart disease and how they can reduce their own risks.

Important risk factors are: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, being overweight or obese, being physically inactive, age and family history.

Your PEBB health plan includes no-cost ways for you to know and act on your risks.

Know your numbers. See your primary care provider on recommended schedules to learn your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, body-mass index, waist circumference and blood sugar levels. Ask what these numbers mean for your heart health and how to improve them. Click here to see coverage of preventive services in PEBB plans.

Quit tobacco. If you smoke, try to quit at least one more time. You can do it, and a Quit Coach can help you succeed. PEBB plans cover the Quit for Life™ program, which includes personal coaching along with nicotine replacement therapy and medications to help you quit. Click here to sign up.

Eat healthy to reach and maintain your best weight. PEBB health plans fully cover the cost of participating in Weight Watchers® for the principal subscriber who completes a confidential, online health assessment. Click here for details on taking the assessment and signing up for Weight Watchers. The plans also cover consultation with a registered dietician. See your plan handbook for details.

"I feel great, I have more energy to play with my kids and do activities that I didn’t when I was heavier. I’m exercising now on a regular basis and I love it. Of course the other added benefit is shopping for new clothes."

Move more. Your health plans offer discounts on gym memberships and other recreational opportunities that can help you and your family start moving and stay active. Click here to see what your plan offers.

Take control of stress. Uncontrolled emotional stress can lead to health-destroying addictions. If you think you or a family member may have a problem with alcohol or drugs, contact Cascade Centers, your employee assistance program. Click here to learn more about this free, completely confidential service.

500 Opportunities for Better Health
Five-hundred slots are open to PEBB members in the new, online program Better Choices, Better Health as well as the community-based Living Well workshops. If you’re dealing with diabetes, arthritis, depression, heart disease, chronic pain or anxiety, this is a way put more life in your life.

"I signed up for this program and am starting my second week. It’s a great course. There's lots of networking between the class participants and facilitators, along with helpful information, books and website resources."
- Mark, PEBB retiree
