2013 Oregon FREE fillable forms

What are Oregon Free Fillable Forms?

This is a program that allows taxpayers to choose the Oregon income tax form and schedules they need, fill in information, e-file and sign the return electronically, and print a copy for their records. It is designed to be the electronic equivalent of paper forms and is ideal for taxpayers who like to fill out their own returns on paper, but would also like the speed, accuracy, and convenience that e-filing can provide.
Unlike most tax software, it does not ask about or explain tax situations. It performs only basic calculations and does not have the same level of checking and guidance you would receive with preparation software. (If this is closer to what you need, see if you qualify for our Free E-File Program with one of our approved preparation vendors.) Just like using paper forms, you will be responsible for the input of most of the information on the return. To get started, head to www.statefillableforms.com/or.

You must provide us with your federal return information and submit it with your Oregon return. If you do not add your federal form, we will not be able to process your Oregon tax return.

For more information contact us at (503) 945-8415 or electronic.filing@oregon.gov. Message line monitored Mon-Fri, from 6am to 4:30pm.

  1. Before you begin, you will need to complete your 2013 Federal Tax Return and submit it to the IRS. Then gather your federal return (1040 or similar) and all necessary documents. This will assist you in filling out your Oregon Form 40 and the federal form that goes with the Oregon free fillable form.
  2. Make sure you have the applicable tax tables and charts available. Refer to the 2013 Taxpayer Instruction Booklet, if you need it.
  3. Review FAQ section of the Oregon Fillable Forms page.
  4. Create a password protected login so you can sign in and out of your return.
  5. Fill in all of the appropriate fields on the return and related forms. Remember to use the "Do the math" feature to help prevent errors.
  6. Make sure you have completed the Federal Schedule information and have entered other items like W-2s, 1099s, etc. You cannot file without it.
  7. Make sure you check the box acknowledging that you are filing your return electronically.
  8. E-file your return and submit payment if necessary.
  9. Receive an acknowledgment email when the return is submitted and when the state accepts it.

Receive acknowledgments.  Since you created an account and provided an email address, you should receive an acknowledgment that your return has been transmitted and another when it is received/accepted by the Oregon Department of Revenue. (This is not the same as accepting your return as correct.)
Send in payment voucher.  If you owe and chose not to set up payment electronically, you will need to send in payment with the voucher you printed.
Look for refund to arrive.  By choosing to e-file, processing should take less than two weeks, in most cases. You should receive your refund in about the same timeframe.
