News & Current Events Traffic Standards Disciplines
In The Zone
The Traffic Control Plans Unit is adding to its communications toolbox through a regular newsletter to its customers. In The Zone is intended to be an information sharing bulletin to keep clients up-to-date on traffic control plans-related news, events, and activities. Manual updates, new technologies, news around the state, and a summary of upcoming classes and events are some of the articles you'll find.
Sign Asset Management Database Near Completion
Sign Asset management is currently working with the ODOT district sign crews to populate their sign databases to create statewide consistency. ODOT is anticipating to have a complete sign database in the near future, which can be accessed by all parties, both internal and external to ODOT, for signing information. For additional information on Asset Management please use the link below.
Illumination
Information on Illumination design, specifications, design manuals and approved products can be found on this page.
Signals
Provides engineering expertise for temporary traffic signals, permanent traffic signals, flashing beacons, ramp meters and some portions of weigh stations. The team also develops specifications, maintains standard drawings, and maintains qualified products lists. The team also reviews local agency and developer agreements and plans for traffic control devices, reviews new products, maintains asset management databases, and provides annual training and certification for inspectors of traffic signal construction.
Signs & Striping
SIGNING - Provides engineering expertise and maintains standards for all highway signs (see Sign Policy and Guidelines in Publications section).

STRIPING - Provides engineering expertise and maintains standards for striping and pavement markings (see Traffic Line Manual and Striping Design Guidelines in Publications section).
Structures
Provides engineering expertise and designs for sign bridges, cantilever sign supports, traffic signal poles, illumination poles, VMS supports and other miscellaneous traffic structures.
Traffic Control Plans
Develops the traffic control plans for construction projects. When construction projects suspend the normal function of the roadway, a traffic control plan is developed to assure the safety of all road users, and the protection of workers. At the same time, the traffic control plan provides for continuity of the movement of motor vehicles, bicycle and pedestrian traffic while allowing for the efficient completion of the construction project.
