Interstate 5 Construction (Portland to Wilsonville)

Current construction and paving projects on I-5 from Portland to Wilsonville are shown below. Click on a project to visit the project page.

Rose Quarter Improvement (planning project)

ODOT, in partnership with the City of Portland, is continuing to study and design improvements to I-5 between Interstate 84 and Interstate 405 in Portland.

Interstate Signs

Travelers will see night work on I-5 in 2018 to install, replace, repair and upgrade existing interstate signs and sign structures to meet current federal standards.

Paving from the Interstate Bridge to Moda Center

ODOT will begin a project in 2018 to repave approximately six miles of Interstate 5 and exit and entrance ramps between the Interstate Bridge and the Moda Center. The project will also replace and upgrade existing signs on the mainline and on exit ramps, upgrade ADA ramps and replace the median barrier on the Hayden Island Bridge and near the North Broadway exit.

I-84 and I-5 Interchange Resurfacing

This project will extend the service life of the four bridges that connect I-84 and I-5 through repairs and resurfacing.

Paving and Auxiliary Lane Project

ODOT is working to improve traffic conditions and highway operations on I-5 from Oregon 99W to Interstate 205.

Tunnel Lighting Improvements

ODOT is designing a project to update the light fixtures in the tunnel along the North Interstate Avenue on-ramp to northbound I-5.

Interstate Bridge Trunnion Replacement

In September 2020, the northbound lanes of the Interstate Bridge will close for up to two weeks as crews replace a cracked trunnion and other parts that help lift and lower the bridge. During the closure, all traffic crossing the bridge will share the southbound travel lanes and sidewalks. The bridge is located on Interstate 5 where it crosses the Columbia River between Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington.
This important maintenance work is necessary to keep the bridge in working order. Because this work takes place overhead, travel lanes must close to keep drivers safe and to provide access for construction crews and heavy equipment. We are preparing extensively for this project to ensure the shortest possible closure period.
