Allan Lazo is the executive director of the Fair Housing Council of Oregon (FHCO), a statewide civil rights organization founded in 1990 whose mission is to end housing discrimination and ensure equal opportunity to housing. FHCO provides access to education, enforcement, and public policy advocacy.
He has been a long-time community advocate for civil rights and social justice, especially in the areas of housing, homelessness, and racial equity. Allan currently serves on the City of Portland Housing Bureau's Affordable Housing Bond Oversight Committee and served on the state of Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development Housing Rulemaking Advisory Committee.
Allan's past civic engagement and social justice work includes having served on a variety of commissions and committees in Portland and Gresham, including the City of Gresham Planning Commission and the City of Portland's Human Rights Commission. He served on the Portland Human Rights Commission from 2010 to 2016, chairing the commission in 2011 and chairing the commission's Housing Rights Task Force.
Prior to joining FHCO, Allan had been an east Portland small business owner in the tax and financial services industry since 2002, and provides the agency exceptional skills in financial management, organizational development, and staff leadership. His past consulting experience includes work in organizational development, specifically related to issues of diversity, equity and inclusion.
He is a long-time resident of Portland.
