Public Comment

How to Comment at Land Conservation and Development Commission Meetings and Public Hearings:

Keep your statement short and concise. Often the commission will inform the public how much time can be given to each person to speak, so stay within that limit. Speak from the heart, but do not let emotions overshadow the content and reason for your message.

Begin your statement by stating whether you support or oppose the particular agenda item and explain why. Describe how the issue affects you personally, what you suggest as a solution and summarize. If you are opposing, discuss how you see the proposal as inconsistent with existing laws, rules or ordinances.

State your name for the record and indicate whether you are speaking for yourself or for a group.

Prepare an outline of your testimony to use while speaking and have a full written statement to leave with the commission.

Know your issue and support your opinion with facts. Be knowledgeable about both sides of the proposal.
