Credentialing

Primary Source Verification

The Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists conducts primary source verification of applicants' education, examination, training, and other jurisdictional licenses, registrations, or certifications (if applicable).  Acceptable sources include documents sent directly from the educational institution, supervisor, approved examining organization, or other state licensing/credentialing authority.

Reporting

In accordance with federal law (Section 1921 of the Social Security Act), the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists reports adverse licensure actions (disciplines) to the National Practitioner Data Bank.

License/Registration Types Issued

The Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists issues two types of independent clinical licenses:
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
The Board also issues two types of pre-licensure supervised clinical registrations to individuals who meet educational requirements and are working towards completing the examination and/or supervised clinical experience requirements for licensure:
  • Registered Professional Counselor Associate
  • Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Associate
