The roundabout construction will happen in stages to help minimize impacts to residents and people driving through the area.
Stages
The first step is to widen and pave the south side of OR 99W to create new lanes for traffic to use while we build the roundabout. Crews will remove the existing lights and traffic signals and install a temporary system to use during construction.
Traffic will shift south onto the newly widened paved section. We'll remove the dedicated northbound right-turn lane on OR 99W and the McDougall Road connection will close permanently at the beginning of this stage. We'll place a temporary barrier near the center of the road to separate the crews from traffic. We'll construct about half of the roundabout during this stage, including temporarily widening the north side of the road for future stages.
OR 99W traffic will shift to the new alignment, partly on the new roundabout road and partly on temporary widening. A temporary connection to OR 18 and the new road on OR 99W will be constructed. Temporary barrier is required on both sides of the road during this phase to protect crews from traffic and keep drivers out of the work zone. Because the ground won't be level, we'll temporarily close OR 18 during this work.
During this stage, there will be two closures of OR 18
.
- OR 18 will close for up to 96 hours, or four days, between Sunday at 7 p.m. and Friday at 5 a.m.
- All through traffic will detour onto OR 99W through McMinnville and Lafayette during this closure.
- Local traffic may use alternate routes such as Lafayette Highway or Kreder Road.
During the final stage, many miscellaneous elements will need to be completed to finish the roundabout. We will move traffic to fully use the roundabout. Crews will finish constructing any remaining crossings, sidewalks, separators and islands during this stage. We will remove any remaining temporary pavement and road widening. Crews will install permanent features like striping, signing and landscaping.
