This is a major rehabilitation project to update or replace the worn surface, as well as remove and replace the deficient base layer pavement.

This project will involve major concrete pavement rehabilitation and may result in an increase in grade or steeper slope to the road surface.

This 62-mile stretch of highway is over 50 years old, and the concrete has reached the end of its service life. It is heavily rutted and the reinforcing steel is corroding. Total pavement failure is imminent.

A major rehabilitation project restores the existing pavement structure, enhances safety for motorists, and preserves one of the state’s largest and most important assets. Restoring the strength of the pavement structure extends the service life of the road and reduces long term maintenance needs.

The new surface improves safety by creating a smoother, more uniform surface that enhances vehicle control, reduces skidding, and improves water drainage. It also restores proper pavement texture and removes ruts and other surface distresses that can cause hydroplaning or sudden driver maneuvers.

Fresh, high contrast lane markings on the new surface are far more visible, especially at night or in wet conditions and helps drivers stay in their lane reducing the risk of a crash.
