Multnomah Falls (I-84) Timed Use Permits are required starting May 22, 2026

The 2026 U.S. Forest Service's annual summer Multnomah Falls (I-84) Timed Use Permit system for I-84 Exit 31 starts on May 22, 2026. Permits are required during the summer tourism peak.
A Timed Use Permit is required for visitors using the I-84 (Exit 31) Multnomah Falls parking lot daily between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. from May 22 through Sept. 7, 2026. Information about the permits is available at https://www.recreation.gov.
Construction is underway on the Historic Columbia River Highway/U.S. 30. The Historic Highway east of Multnomah Falls is closed from October 2025 to spring 2026. Learn more.
There is no parking along the shoulder of the Historic Columbia River Highway, and parking is extremely limited at the small lot along the Historic Highway/U.S. 30 at Multnomah Falls.
Sasquatch Shuttle is operating this lot and charging for parking on a first-come, first served basis. There are two ADA parking spots at this lot for those with valid ADA placards. Improperly parked vehicles are subject to ticketing and/or towing – make sure to park only in designated spots.
The most reliable way to see Multnomah Falls continues to be transit, by bicycle, or by tour/shuttle.
Columbia Area Transit (CAT) runs the Columbia Gorge Express serving Gateway Transit Center in Portland, Multnomah Falls, Cascade Locks, and Hood River. Avoid congestion by planning your trip in advance. If you want to visit Multnomah Falls by personal vehicle, the best way is to take I-84 to Exit 31.
