Adopted codes and standards

The Oregon Structural Specialty Code (OSSC) establishes the minimum requirements for the construction, reconstruction, alteration and repair of buildings and other structures, as well as the installation of mechanical devices and equipment. The division works with building officials, technical committees, advisory boards, and the public to adopt, amend, and interpret the provisions of the OSSC.

Program activities

  • Building Codes Structures Board - The Building Codes Structures Board works with the division to adopt and administer the OSSC.
  • Code adoption - The division works with the board, local building officials and industry stakeholders to adopt each edition of the OSSC. The code adoption process includes a code development phase, a board review phase, a rulemaking phase and for certified inspectors, a code update training phase.
