Inspector certification renewal cycle

Current inspector certification renewal cycle

Note The division has adopted a new revision that moves back the renewal date for the Oregon Inspector Certification (OIC) from Nov. 1, 2022 to June 1, 2023. This new rule is effective on Oct. 1, 2022. This rule allows individuals who have not completed their 2021 code change cycle training to complete and self-certify completion of the training to the division no later than June 1, 2023.

Please read this notice explaining the changes in detail.

On April 1, 2021, the division adopted the 2021 editions of the Oregon Residential Specialty Code (ORSC), Oregon Electrical Specialty Code (OESC), and the Oregon Plumbing Specialty Code (OPSC).

The division also adopted the 2021 Oregon Energy Efficiency Specialty Code (OEESC), and the Chapter 1 mid-cycle amendments to the 2019 Oregon Structural Specialty Code (OSSC). Certification holders were required to complete all code update training for the ORSC, OESC, OPSC, OEESC and the OSSC and self-certify to the division completion of the training by Oct. 31, 2021.

All BCD inspector certification holders are required to complete a code change class provided by the division to maintain their active certification. For this code cycle, the division prepared online training videos and supplementary materials showing the substantial changes to each newly adopted code. View the 2021 Code Change Letter - Instructions and self-certification.

Certification holders must be able to demonstrate that they have completed all required code update training and continuing education for both the 2021 and 2022 code updates prior to their next renewal.
