License exams and locations

Most individual licenses require a test/exam. When you apply you will indicate your choice of a testing location on your application. The passing score for all licensing exams is 75 percent or better.

Exam process

Getting a Letter of Authorization: When your application is approved, the division will mail you a Letter of Authorization that the contact information for the exam location you chose on your application and a list of approved testing materials to take into the exam.

Changing the exam location: If you would like to change locations after receiving your Letter of Authorization, you will have to pay the license fee, and a new letter will be created at that time.

Scheduling the exam: It is your responsibility to schedule the exam date and time with the testing location. The exam must be taken within 60 days of the date of the Letter of Authorization.

Getting the results: The exam location forwards the exam to the division for grading.

  • Pass: Applicants who pass the exam will receive the license in the mail along with the results.
  • Fail: Applicants who fail the exam will receive the results in the mail along with a strength / weakness report and a license reapplication form to test again. All applicants must wait 30 days after each failure before retaking an exam.
