Available License Statuses
This is intended to be a guide about the license statuses available with the Oregon BLSW. Some information may be missing.
Active Status
- Can you practice?
- Yes, if your Oregon social work license is on active status, you can practice in Oregon.
- Who qualifies?
- All license types that are not expired or lapsed may request to go to active status.
- Years licensed requirement
- Renewal CE requirements
- The full CE requirement has to be met per renewal (CSWA is exempt). This includes Cultural Competency and Ethics.
- Can you use the license title?
- Yes, you can use the license title.
Semi-Retired Status (LCSW only)
- Can you practice?
- Yes, however, you are limited to working a maximum of 500 hours per calendar year.
- Who qualifies?
- LCSW licenses that are on Active or Inactive status only qualify and they must meet eligibility requirements.
- Years licensed requirement
- You must have held an LCSW license for 20+ years under a regulatory board before requesting this status
- Renewal CE requirements
- 20 CE hours total are due per renewal, including 6 Ethics and 6 Cultural Competency.
- Can you use the license title?
- Yes, you can use the license title.
Inactive Status
- Can you practice?
- No, if your Oregon social work license is on inactive status, you cannot can practice in Oregon.
- Who qualifies?
- All license types that are not expired or lapsed may request to go to inactive status.
- Years licensed requirement
- Renewal CE requirements
- No CE are required once your license status has been changed to inactive status.
- Can you use the license title?
- No, you may not use the license title.
How to submit a status change request. A guide.
The following steps are intended to be used as a guide only. Some steps or information may not be listed below.
Step 1: Log into your Licensee Portal.
- Use your email address and password to log into the Oregon BLSW Licensee Portal.
Step 2: Submit a status change request.
- Click on the Status Change Request tab located to the left of your dashboard screen.
Step 3: Submit required documents if requested.*
- *Some status change requests have additional requirements to change your status. Please follow the emailed instructions provided by Oregon BLSW staff to complete your status change request.
Step 4: Renew your social work license.
- After your status change request is processed and approved, please renew your license by your renewal date. Instructions for how to do so can be found above.
Step 5: Download and print your updated license.
- Your updated license will be available in your portal under the Wallet Card and Wall Certificate tab located to the left of your dashboard screen.
