Professional Workplace Training

Private Security Providers must complete the course below:

Professional Workplace Training
*Participants have one opportunity to print the certificate of completion. If the certificate window is closed before the certificate is printed, participants must start the training from the beginning. The certificate is for the employer only and does not need to be provided to the program. 

Training Roster  - This roster form is optional and provided as a courtesy for the entity to keep training records for private security providers, it does not need to be submitted with the entity application.

The Professional Workplace Training​ which covers:

a. ​Preventing sexual assault and sexual harassment in the workplace

b. Preventing discrimination in the workplace and promoting cultural competency.

c. Educating the workforce regarding protection for employees who report a violation of a state or federal law, rule or regulation.​​


​Yes – Employees can enter their names on the completion certificate before printing them out, though they will have to re-take the training to re-issue a completion certificate. The entity can also use​ our supplied Training Roster​​. Training records need to be maintained for three (3) years. The records must be provided to the Department upon request; you are not required to submit the records with your application.​​

A business can keep a roster of employees that have completed the required training, or use the Certificate of Completion available at the end of the training. We have provided a template Training Roster for use if the training is provided in a group setting.​ Training records need to be maintained for three (3) years. The records must be provided to the Department upon request; you are not required to submit the records with your application.​


​Yes; OAR 259-059-0150​(3) The approved professional training is the Professional Workplace Training Course. The Professional Workplace Training Course is the training course obtained by the Department, through the Bureau of Labor and Industries, for licensees to utilize for this professional training requirement. The Department will provide the Professional Workplace Training Course online, as self-paced training.​

​OAR 259-059-0150​(2) Licensees must provide the approved professional training as follows:

(a) If the private security provider is employed by the private security entity at the time of licensure, at least once during the first year in which the license is issued;

(b) If the private security provider is hired after the issuance or renewal date of the license, within 90 days of the private security provider's initial date of hire; and

(c) At least once every two years after the renewal of a license. 

  • Private security providers must be provided with paid time to complete the Professional Workplace Training Course and may not be required or permitted to perform their regular work duties during the time they are taking the training.
  • ​Licensees must provide private security providers with access to the appropriate resources to complete the Professional Workplace Training Course such as, but not limited to, a computer, a printer, and internet access.​​
