Public University Academic Program Approval

The Higher Education Coordinating Commission is responsible for approval of “significant changes” (ORS 350.085) to Oregon public university academic programs. This responsibility is managed by the Office of University Coordination, Academic Planning and Policy unit.

Significant changes, including proposals for new degree programs, are brought forward to the Commission through the statewide Provosts' Council for Oregon's public universities. Staff of the Office of University Coordination, Academic Planning and Policy unit work with Provosts on the process and policy guidelines, and proposed programs are considered by the Commission at public meetings.

See the HECC upcoming public meeting materials and past meeting materials for information on commission agendas and minutes. Recent program approvals are also announced in the HECC Collaborations e-newsletter on a regular basis.
