850-040-0210 - Annual Continuing Education Hours for Licensure Renewal and Program Approval Requirements and Procedures – REVISED AUGUST 2022

  • Active License: Thirty-two (32) [total] continuing education (CE) hours are annually required to maintain an active license to practice Naturopathic Medicine
  • Twenty (20) hours of general education that promotes competency and skills necessary to maintain the highest standard of naturopathic medical care, including a minimum of the following mandatory continuing education.
  • Pain management education as required by ORS 413.590 as follows:
     
    • Naturopathic physicians who receive their initial license in 2022, must complete and report one credit hour of pain management education during the 2022 annual renewal cycle.
    • One (1) credit hour of pain management every odd number calendar year
       
  • One (1) hour of cultural competency education as required by ORS 676.850 every even number calendar year.
  • Two (2) hours of medical ethics or suicide intervention and prevention.
  • Ten (10) hours of pharmacology.

Professional Development Program (PDP): OAR 850-040-0240(1)

PDP providers who plan to present the same continuing education event or online program to licensed naturopathic physicians in the State of Oregon more than once within two-calendar years period, may apply for PDP approval.  PDP approval is valid for two calendar-years following the date of approval.


Per Rule, a Professional Development Program must:

  1. Offered to and attended by licensed naturopathic physicians in the State of Oregon.
  2. Maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, skills and professional performance and relationships and services for patients, the public, the profession.
  3. Offer education and skills recognized and accepted by the profession in areas pertaining to research, basic medical sciences, clinical practice, or public health care.
  4. Foster the continuing competency and skills in the scope of practice of naturopathic medicine in the State of Oregon,
  5. Provide education in new, review, experimental research or specialized education and training specific to the practice of naturopathic medicine.

One-Time CE Event: OAR 850-040-0240(2)

Providers may apply for approval of a one-time continuing education event or online program offered to and attended by licensed naturopathic physicians in the State of Oregon.  If approved, Oregon licensees who attend the event will receive credit for hours of attendance by submitting a certificate of attendance and completion, with no further documentation required.
