A variety of laws, rules, guidance documents and resources set important parameters or considerations for transportation planning at the Oregon Department of Transportation and regional and local agencies. Some simply help clarify terms, abbreviations and other resources. See below for some recent and important references for Oregon transportation planners.
Oregon Revised Statutes, or ORS, and Oregon Administrative Rules, or OAR, provide the basic requirements and direction to develop desired outcomes for planning the future transportation systems in Oregon. Oregon Revised Statutes provide the legislative framework for planning programs and Oregon Administrative Rules provide more detailed procedural expectations and further explain the intent of the statutory directives. They work in tandem to form the legal requirements for the planning processes at the state and local government level.
