Board of Denture Technology

  • Denturists Specialize in Removable Prosthetic Dental Appliances

    ​Denturists construct, repair, reline, reproduce, duplicate, supply, fit or alter removable prosthetic dental appliances—otherwise known as dentures as defined in Oregon Revised Statutes (ORS) 680.500 (scroll down to find the correct ORS reference).  In the fitting process, denturists also take impressions, bite registrations, try-ins or insertions.
     
    Denturists may provide full dentures to replace complete sets of original teeth that are missing in the upper, lower or both sections of the mouth, or partial dentures, which fit sections of the mouth in which some of the original teeth remain.

    Denturists provide services independently and directly to the public in their own offices, in dental laboratories and businesses that specialize in denture services, and work in collaboration with dentists, orthodontists and oral surgeons to provide comprehensive dental services to patients.
  • Proposed Rules Include Informed Consent for Teeth-Whitening Trays

    As the Board of Denture Technology has completed a comprehensive review of
    the Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR) for the profession, we are encouraging participation and comment from the state’s denturists, as well as from the public and other stakeholders.

    As follow up to House Bill 2145 from the 2011 session of the Oregon Legislature, the proposed rules contain a provision that denturists must provide patients with written and verbal informed consent when providing teeth whitening trays to patients.

    Under the proposed rules, denturists would be prohibited from providing patients with teeth whitening solutions that are prescription strength.
