Limited Specialty Plumbing individual licenses

NOTICE

The following instructions are for applicants seeking one of the following licenses:

  • Solar heating and cooling installer (STL)
  • Water-treatment installer (WTI)
  • Limited water heater installer (WHI)

To apply for a plumbing license, an application must be submitted as a single packet with all required documentation. The mailing address and payment instructions are listed on the application. To protect your personal information, do not email any documents to the division.
Incomplete applications may result in delays in processing or rejection of your application. For a list of required application materials, please use the application checklist below.

Step 1: Apply for a license

Fill out the Limited Specialty Plumbing License Application .

Don't forget to:
  • Send a complete application (page 1, 2, and 3)
  • STL and WTI only: Submit an experience verification form for each employer
  • Submit any additional documentation required (i.e. high school diploma, transcripts, copies of other licenses, copy of picture)

Experience verification

Plumbing Experience Verification Form
This form is required for each employer listed in the employer experience section (step 4) of your application. You must list your experience in the required work categories in OAR 918-695

Step 2: Schedule the exam

After your application is received and approved, the division will mail you a letter of authorization that details how to schedule the licensing exam.

After the exam is completed, you will be notified by mail of the results no later than two weeks of taking the exam. If you pass the exam, your license will be mailed to you.

Application Checklist

A complete application must include the following:

  • A complete Limited Specialty Plumbing License Application, with affidavit signed (step 8)
    • STL and WTI only: A complete Plumbing Experience Verification Form for each employer
  • Additional documentation:
    • Proof of completion of an equivalent lawful out-of-state training
    • Official transcripts of classroom training
  • Proof of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent. A college degree will substitute
  • A Passport-style photo (2"x2") with the applicant's name on the back
  • Payment of fee
