Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program (SCIP)
The Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program (SCIP) is a U.S. Department of Justice (USDOJ) grant program authorized by the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act of 2022 to reduce gun violence, save lives, and to make progress toward keeping guns out of dangerous hands. The Byrne SCIP provides federal funding for extreme risk protection order (ERPO) programs, law enforcement crisis intervention programs or initiatives, and related gun violence reduction programs and/or initiatives. This program furthers USDOJ’s mission by assisting state, local, and tribal efforts to prevent or reduce crime and violence, with particular focus on gun violence and the programs and initiatives that target the risk factors that are likely to lead to this kind of violence.
