ASCENT Outward Performance

Arbinger’s work shows that people and organizations operate from two different mindsets:
  1. Inward – focused on themselves.
  2. Outward – focused on others.

The Outward Performance workshop teaches tools to improve self-awareness, change mindset, and build accountability and teamwork. It helps people work better with their teams and become more self-aware.

Outward Performance Workshop Flyer

Studies show that organizations that focus on shifting to an outward mindset are four times more likely to succeed in organizational-change efforts than companies that focus only on changing behavior. By helping leaders to turn organizational systems and processes outward provided a strong invitation for sustained systemic change.

  • Understand two mindsets and their implications on results
  • Assess the extent to which they are working with an inward mindset
  • Change their mindsets to become more outward
  • Re-conceive their jobs to make them more outward
  • Hold themselves more fully accountable
  • Report on performance in a way that keeps them working outward
  • Work in a way that is more collaborative, fulfilling, and effective
  • Positively influence others to change
  • Address and resolve conflicts

This workshop is open to all current Oregon state government employees who want to build their leadership skills, no matter their job or title. The workshop also works well when whole teams attend and learn together.

The virtual workshop includes five half‑day sessions with up to 35 participants. Each session uses video case studies, group conversations with certified facilitators, and practical tools to put mindset changes into action immediately. You can apply what you learn both at work and in your personal life.
