Point Injection Therapy Workgroup

The Oregon Medical Board's Acupuncture Advisory Committee reviewed a request to include point injection therapy within the acupuncture scope of practice, along with any additional qualifications or requirements an acupuncturist would need to provide it. The Committee asked a workgroup to evaluate the request and recommend whether point injection therapy belongs within the acupuncture scope of practice, and, if applicable, to draft rule language for consideration.

Workgroup Composition
The Workgroup will include persons with subject matter expertise and individuals who will likely be affected by the proposed rules. OMB staff will ensure the Workgroup includes a diversity of experiences and perspectives and will provide administrative support. The Workgroup may consist of:

• 1-2 members of the OMB's Acupuncture Advisory Committee
• 1 representative of the Oregon Association of Acupuncturists
• 2-3 practicing acupuncturists
• 1 acupuncture educator
• 1 consumer member who is not an acupuncturist
  

The Workgroup is advisory, and consensus is not necessary; the OMB retains final decision-making authority.

Workgroup Meetings
Meeting will be held virtually from Noon – 2 pm on:

• October 15, 2026
• November 5, 2026

Workgroup meetings are public meetings. OMB staff will assist with meeting facilitation. All attendees who are not members of the Workgroup will be muted during the meeting, except during the designated public comment period. If the OMB issues a notice of proposed rulemaking to the Secretary of State, there will be additional opportunities for public comment as part of the formal rulemaking process.
