The New MDPC

A grant from the Impaired Driving Program provided funding for the Mobile DUII Processing Center, (MDPC). The MDPC is a 2007 Winnebago 36-foot Voyage motorhome. Its purpose is to be available to all law enforcement agencies throughout Oregon as they conduct DUII patrols at large events. It is retrofitted with equipment and supplies necessary to test and process impaired drivers. Along with other equipment, the MDPC has two holding cells, breath testing equipment and computers. Having all this equipment in the mobile unit allows police agencies to be on-site at various events, such as rodeos, wine and beer festivals or any other event where large numbers of people consume alcohol or other intoxicants and then attempt to drive under the influence of those substances. This vehicle will save officers time in transporting people to jails and will allow them to remain at the site where they are needed. The MDPC will also be a very visible attraction which will draw the attention of the public and it is hoped, serve as a deterrent. Law enforcement agencies interested in using the MDPC in their communities are asked to contact their local Oregon State Police area command for more information and/or to discuss the schedule.

DRE Program

*Click image to go to website.* The Oregon Drug Evaluation and Classification (DEC) Program, is managed and coordinated by the Oregon State Police and has been since the inception of the program in 1995. Oregon is one of 40 states participating in the DEC Program. The DEC Program is under the national guidance and direction of the International Association of Chief’s of Police (IACP) and is supported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Oregon program continues to work in partnership with the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) – Transportation Safety Division, the Oregon Association Chief’s of Police (OACP), the Oregon State Sheriff’s Association (OSSA), the Oregon District Attorney’s Association (ODAA), and the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) to select, train and prepare police officers to be Drug Recognition Experts and make an impact in deterring drug-impaired driving in Oregon.


Tips for a Safe Celebration

Responsible Party Host Tips: Have designated drivers. Plan to have sober drivers at your party who can escort folks home. Volunteer to be a sober driver at someone else’s party. Plan ahead to get keys. Prepare a basket or bowl where all of your guests can leave their keys. You are the only person who can retrieve the keys. This way, you can examine all of your guests before they leave. Have a cab fare fund. Having available cash to pay cab fare for your guests if they need it reduces the stress on you. If you can’t afford to pay for it yourself, ask your guests to pitch in a few bucks on your invitation. Have a phone number for a cab company handy. Print the name of a local cab company on your invitation and ask your guests to program it into their mobile phones. Purchase non-alcoholic beverages. Always have soft drinks, juices and other non-alcoholic beverages available for those guests who are driving or choose not to drink. Plan to be sober. Be a responsible host. Limiting your own alcohol intake will allow you to better determine if a guest is sober enough to drive at the end of the night. For additional information; OLCC
