Ms. Sherry Dress has practiced midwifery for more than 33 years in rural eastern Oregon, providing care in the delivery of more than 1700 babies.
She earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Biology from California State University at Northridge, attended Holy Cross Hospital School of Nursing in San Fernando Valley, CA, and worked as a floor nurse at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles.
After experiencing a serious electrical shock while delivering a baby in a San Diego Hospital, her career changed drastically and she began delivering babies at home. She was also charge nurse of Santa Monica Women's Clinic before moving to Oregon in 1976. She had all four of her children at home in Ritter, OR.
Ms. Dress is Vice President of Birthing The Future, an international organization supporting safe and natural birthing practices, and serves on the Mental Health Board for Grant County. Ms. Dress is also a classical homeopath and biofeedback therapist and owns Naturally Yours Health Food Store in John Day.
"I want to make sure this old profession is honored as any other medical model," says Ms. Dress. "Midwifery is a special calling and it takes a lot of dedication and perseverance to pursue a lifelong career."
