  • New rule reduces late fees
The Health Licensing Office (Office) adopted new administrative rules for the Environmental Health Registration Board, effective July 1, 2015.
The rules, which you can read here, update the Health Licensing name (it is an Office now, not an agency) and reduce the late fee for a delinquent renewal of registration from a sliding scale to a fixed rate per year up to three years.

  • Environmental Health Wide-Ranging, Multi-faceted Field

Hurricane Katrina. Ground Zero. West Nile Virus. These are high-profile examples of disasters or other threats in which environmental health professionals play a role in protecting public and environmental health.

In this wide-ranging and multi-faceted field, environmental health specialists also regularly inspect restaurants, public pools and waste water systems to prevent outbreaks of infectious disease and other public health or environmental problems.

The Health Licensing Office (HLO) oversees regulation of environmental health specialists and other health and related professions.

  • Testing gets a little more convenient

Trainees can now take required examinations without driving to Salem and the tests cost less! The Health Licensing Office (HLO), in cooperation with the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA), has partnered with Pearson Vue, a national licensing test provider, to offer the NEHA exam at any of the Pearson Vue test centers around the state.

You can also now take the Oregon laws and rules examination from the comfort of your home. Trainee applicants used to have to drive to Salem and pay $50 for this test. Now applicants can go online and take the examination for free through iLearn, and print out a certificate showing a passing score.
