OR43 (SW Macadam Ave) Ramp Rehabilitation Project
  (Updated Nov. 17, 2016)
Thank you for your patience during ODOT's Ramp Rehabilitation Project!

Thank you, drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, residents, and local businesses, for your patience during roadway closures this summer as crews working for ODOT repaired and upgraded the ramp connecting Oregon Highway 43 over Interstate 5.

The last day of continuous daytime and nighttime full closures for the project was August 27. Crews safely opened the ramp and connecting roadways. However, work continued through mid-November while crews made finishing touches and cleaned up the work site. The project prevented the need for a total replacement of the ramp which carries 15,000 vehicles each day. We expect the repaired ramp will serve the region well for many years to come.

The project also addressed needed maintenance and repairs in the area, which included replacing a damaged traffic barrier, repaving the roadway section connecting to SW Hood Avenue, and clearing vegetation to improve visibility and safety.

Please let us know how we did by taking the customer service survey below.

Project at a glance

• Number of crew members who worked on the project: 66

• Official detour route options that directed travelers to their destinations: 15

• Cubic yards of high performance, skid-resistant concrete poured: 199

How did we do?

We want you to know what to expect during construction so you can plan ahead. For the OR 43 Ramp Rehabilitation Project we sent mailings and emails, distributed fliers to businesses in the project area, provided an interactive online map of all detour routes, warned of delays with road signs, and provided construction updates on the project website and via email and social media.

We value your feedback on how we kept you informed. Please click the "Give Feedback" link below to take a four-minute survey. Your input will help ODOT communicate about future roadway work.

ODOT has repaired and upgraded the deck of the ramp connecting OR 43 (Southwest Macadam Avenue) over Interstate 5 to Southwest Kelly and Southwest Hood avenues in August 2016.

Project need
Rebar shows through the ramp deck and rehabilitation is needed to maintain the travel connection and avoid complete replacement. ODOT also will replace a damaged traffic barrier and repave a section of roadway that connects to Southwest Hood Avenue. About 15,000 vehicles use this connection on average each day to access downtown Portland and the Ross Island Bridge.
