Language Accessibility and Inclusive Communication

Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) is committed to ensuring that all Oregonians, including individuals with limited English proficiency, people with disabilities, and users of assistive communication technology, can equitably access our information, programs, and services. Language and communication support can be essential in helping individuals understand and take advantage of opportunities to improve or stabilize their housing situation.

Our goal is to remove language and communication barriers to maintain open, effective, and inclusive communication with every Oregonian. OHCS can provide a variety of services, including:

  • Translation of written materials.
  • Braille and large-print transcription.
  • Verbal interpretation.
  • Signed language interpretation.
  • ProTactile interpretation.
  • Transcription services (voice to text).
  • Subtitling and captioning.
  • Communication Access Real-Time Translation (CART).
  • Additional services as reasonably needed by the community.

Your Rights

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits any agency receiving federal funds from discriminating against individuals based on race, color, or national origin, including discrimination related to the language a person speaks.
