Self-Pay Early Retirees
Early Retiree Coverage Option
When an OEBB member retires prior to age 65, and is not yet Medicare-eligible, they have the option to remain on OEBB benefit plans as an “early retiree” until they gain eligibility for Medicare. If the early retiree does not receive an employer contribution toward their benefits, the employing entity has the option to turn the benefits administration for that “Self-Pay Early Retiree” over to OEBB. These “OEBB-Administered Self-Pay Retirees” are the members referred to in this section of the website.

Benefits administrators at an OEBB-participating entity can use the Administrator Self-Pay Early Retiree (SPER) Toolkit to help transition your self-pay early retiree’s benefits administration to OEBB.
