About the Program

The Medicaid Electronic Health Record Incentive (EHR) Program launched in September 2011 and concluded December 31, 2021 with the ending of the federal funding opportunity.

Established by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the Medicaid Electronic Health Records (EHR) Incentive Program (aka Medicaid Promoting Interoperability Program) provides incentive payments to eligible health care professionals and hospitals to support their EHR investments. Incentives are available for adopting and demonstrating the “meaningful use” of certified EHR technology. The program launched in 2011 and runs through 2021. Program Year 2016 was the last year to start the multi-year incentive program.

Physicians and other practitioners who aren't eligible for Medicaid EHR incentives may be eligible for incentives under the Quality Payment Program (QPP). For more information, visit the QPP website.
