  • PLAN AHEAD...Obtain Tax and Registration Credentials Before Operating in Oregon



    When traveling in Oregon or entering Oregon, carriers must obtain tax and registration credentials prior to operating except if entering Oregon on I-5 @ OR/WA Border and go directly to Portland Bridge Office @ Jantzen Beach and purchase credentials. The Portland Bridge Office @ Jantzen Beach is open 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

  • Oregon Withdraws from IRP Clearinghouse


    Effective February 1, 2013 Oregon will no longer participate in the IRP Inc Clearinghouse. Beginning in February Oregon will revert to transmitting apportioned fees and transmittals directly to the jurisdictions.

  • Pass Fee Increase


    Effective OCTOBER 1ST, Motor Carrier will be implementing OAR 740-055-0025. The OAR allows Motor Carrier to collect a pass fee of $9 for each pass issued. This means Motor Carrier will begin charging $9 per temporary pass issued, even if you are just adding miles to an existing pass or making an adjustment to the route or weight.

    After October 1st Motor Carrier is issuing separate credentials for Heavy Trailer Trip Permit, Heavy Motor Vehicle Trip Permit, and Temporary Registration Weight Permit.  You may receive more than one page when you request faxed credentials. Check your credentials before you leave your location.

    A free app designed for the iPhone and iPad lets bus riders check the safety records of nearly 6,000 interstate passenger carriers, including private motorcoach, school bus, and tour bus companies. "As college students, families and tour groups start thinking about spring and summer travel, we encourage everyone to use the SaferBus app to look before you book your next bus trip," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.

  • Hours-of-service rulemaking brings some changes

    The FMCSA has been keeping everyone on the edge of their seats waiting for an outcome to its driver hours-of-service rulemaking. But just before the end of the year the agency issued its final rule and announced that it would not change the daily driving limit or the weekly on-duty hours limits either. But beginning July 1, 2013, it is making a change to the restart provision and it's adding a new provision related to 30-minute breaks.

  • New medical card rules are in effect for CDL holders

    Oregon DMV now requires commercial truck and bus drivers to submit a photocopy of their medical certificate to continue holding a CDL. The new requirement is part of federal safety regulations aimed at making sure CDL holders are medically fit. Some drivers will meet this requirement sooner than others, but by January 30, 2014, everyone will need to submit a copy of their valid medical card to DMV.

  • California Truck and Bus Emission Changes


    Effective January 1, 2013, the new Truck and Bus Regulation requirements for heavier vehicles; vehicles over 26,000 pounds gross weight rating, with 2000-2004 model year engines take effect. The regulation reduces emissions of toxic diesel exhaust through requirements for the use of verified soot filters and/or upgrades to newer engines.
