Cleaner Air Oregon is a health-based air quality program that regulates harmful air emissions from industrial facilities that may impact your health. CAO requires facilities to perform a Risk Assessment – this process requires facilities to report and model how much of these harmful air emissions community members may be breathing. DEQ then determines potential health risks (like cancer) and requires facilities to reduce emissions if the risks are too high.
DEQ created the Cleaner Air Oregon Community Resource Corner to provide information and tools to help community members understand the CAO process. This page has information to help you understand the program’s process, why it is important, and where there are opportunities for you to engage with DEQ. CAO shares documents with the public so they can stay informed through the process and about the health risk from facilities.
