Food Environmental Impacts and Actions

​DEQ commissioned a project to assess the environmental impacts of the four most common food waste processing technologies to help inform the direction that would be best for the state to follow as food waste recovery programs begin to expand across Oregon.  The study involved research of existing published articles and gathering of data sources to evaluate and compare the life cycle impacts of:
  1. Landfill
  2. Sink disposal to sewer treatment
  3. Aerobic Composting
  4. Anaerobic Digestion. 
The study was not an original Life Cycle Analysis.
This project was being funded by Metro; the contractor is Sound Resource Management Group of Olympia, WA.
