GI Bill Opportunities for Veteran First Responders

Greetings Newly Hired Public Safety Professional and Veteran

Congratulations on being hired as a public safety professional and thank you for your military service! The Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) has a great partnership with the Oregon Department of Veteran's Affairs (ODVA) to ensure that the men and women who have worn the uniform of our nation's armed forces take advantage of the education benefits they have earned as a result of their military service.

You may be able to apply your military service (VA) education benefits to on-the-job training (field training) your agency will be offering. This includes law enforcement, corrections, parole and probation, and public safety communications.

ODVA has created the GI Bill Opportunities for Veteran First Responders that we wanted to share with you which explains the benefits that are available and how they can be utilized. The brochure includes contact information in case you have additional questions.

DPSST is honored to help our veterans and we value the partnership we have with ODVA. We are glad to share that ODVA has a Campus Coordinator at the Oregon Public Safety Academy the third Wednesday of every month to help veterans attending a DPSST basic training course access their benefits and assist with information on other programs and services that they are entitled to.

Thank you for your time and thanks again for your service.
