AboutLands Managed by DSL

The Department of State Lands works on behalf of the State Land Board to manage approximately 772,261 acres of land and 768,550 acres of mineral and energy rights statewide for the benefit of Oregon’s K-12 schools. Lands managed by DSL include agricultural, forested, and grazing lands; industrial, commercial, and residential lands; mineral and energy resources; and special stewardship lands.

Revenue from leases, easements, and other authorizations to use school lands goes to Oregon’s Common School Fund. DSL also identifies property development and sales opportunities to enhance its contributions to public education.

Our stewardship of school lands is guided by the Department's Real Estate Asset Management Plan and Strategic Plan. These plans inform day-to-day management of school lands and identify strategic initiatives to enhance our contributions to schools and Oregon.
