Overview
The mission of DEQ's Water Quality Division is to protect and improve Oregon’s water quality. This is accomplished through the cohesive teamwork of DEQ water quality staff. Starting with the collection and evaluation of water quality data to develop water quality standards and clean water plans, providing grants and technical assistance to reduce nonpoint pollution sources, lending to communities to build and upgrade treatment facilities, assuring wastewater operators are certified to ensure wastewater treatment facilities run smoothly and effectively, protecting waters during and after construction, and finishing the cycle by implementing the Clean Water Act and Oregon Revised Statutes through the issuance of water quality permits to publicly owned treatment systems and industrial dischargers. Protecting and improving Oregon’s rivers, lakes, streams and groundwater quality keeps Oregon’s waters safe for drinking water, fish habitat, recreation and irrigation.
