Rail Advisory Committee

About the Committee

The Rail Advisory Committee provides advice to the Public Transportation Division and Oregon Transportation Commission on issues that affect rail freight and passenger facilities and services in Oregon, including rail project selection for Connect Oregon funding.

The Rail Advisory Committee meets quarterly on the third Tuesday of the prospective month, March, June, September, and December.

Committee Work

The Rail Advisory Committee is currently working with the Oregon Department of Transportation, Public Transportation Division to develop the Oregon State Rail Plan Implementation Plan. Given the comprehensive list of passenger and freight rail needs identified in the Oregon State Rail Plan, limited state funding, and growing political, business and public interest in rail, a standardized approach is needed to catalog and update projects and to streamline and methodize their tracking and prioritization. To meet this need the Rail Needs Inventory was developed and organized within 6 Factors and 22 Evaluation Criteria.

Review and comment on the elements under development for the Oregon State Rail Plan Implementation Plan.
