Income and rent limits

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) sets income limits to determine eligibility for assisted housing programs. These public housing programs include:

  • Section 8 Project-Based
  • Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher
  • Section 202 Housing for the Elderly
  • Section 811 Housing for Persons with Disabilities
HUD develops income limits based on median family income and fair market rents. HUD determines these limits for metropolitan areas, parts of some areas, and non-metropolitan counties.
