Renters Rights
If you want to file a complain or start an investigation
Contact the
Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI). BOLI can:
- Take formal fair housing complaints
- Investigate discrimination claims
- Subpoena records and witnesses
- Issue findings and pursue enforcement
BOLI is a good first step when:
- You believe you were treated unfairly because of a protected class
- You want an official investigation
- You might need enforcement or legal action
If you want advice, education, or help understanding whether discrimination occurred
Contact
Fair Housing Council of Oregon (FHCO). FHCO can:
- Explain whether your situation is likely illegal
- Help you understand your rights
- Provide informal guidance
- Conduct fait housing testing (something BOLI does not do)
- Help you decide whether to file with BOLI or HUD
FHCO is a good first step when:
- You're unsure if what happened is discrimination
- You want to talk through your situation privately
- You need help gathering information
