In
response to a citizen petition, the
Environmental Quality Commission adopted rules and policies designating Waldo
and Crater lakes as Outstanding Resource Waters. Outstanding Resource Waters are high quality waters that constitute an
outstanding state resource due to their extraordinary water quality or
ecological values, or where special protection is needed to maintain critical
habitat areas. The law authorizes the Environmental Quality Commission to adopt
administrative rules and policies to designate and protect these waters. OAR
340-041-0004(8).
DEQ has appointed an advisory committee to assist DEQ in drafting rules through
which DEQ will designate Waldo and Crater Lakes as Outstanding Resource Waters.

Advisory committee meetings are open to the public. The public may attend the
meeting, but the committee has discretion whether to allow the public to
participate in the meeting. The public will be able to comment on the proposed
rule changes during the public notice and comment period later in the
rulemaking. DEQ publishes meeting notices on Events Calendar
