Food Waste Prevention Week

Food Waste Prevention Week

DEQ actively sponsors and participates in Food Waste Prevention Week, a national campaign dedicated to fostering cultural change to reduce food waste. This initiative aims to educate Oregonians on how to save money, mitigate the environmental impact of food waste, and address hunger within our communities.

Since 2022, DEQ has collaborated with local governments and non-governmental organizations to promote Food Waste Prevention Week throughout the state. We are proud to have over 50 registered local partners and continue to expand our network each year.

FWPW partner sponsorship program

Oregon DEQ is proud to offer a sponsorship program for Food Waste Prevention Week 2026. Now in it’s second year, the goal of the program is to support community-driven efforts across the state. Through the sponsorship program, DEQ provides funding for local events that take innovative and engaging approaches to preventing food waste, while fostering collaboration and partnership at the community level. Due to limited funds, these sponsorships are distributed through a competitive process designed to ensure equitable access across Oregon. By investing in locally led initiatives, DEQ aims to reduce food waste, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and strengthen community wellbeing.
