To maintain licensure, a certified art therapist must complete a minimum of twelve (12) continuing education (CE) hours every licensure year. For the current CE requirements, please see Oregon Administrative Rule (OAR) 331-385-0010 and 331-385-0020.

Continuing Education Frequently Asked Questions

Documentation, attestation and audit

Documentation supporting compliance with CE requirements must be maintained by the licensee for a period of four (4) years following license renewal and be provided to the Health Licensing Office upon request.

Each licensee shall document compliance with the CE credit requirements through attestation on the license renewal application.

For current auditing and sanction information, please see OAR 331-385-0020 (link to come when rules are posted to the Oregon Secretary of States' web page).

Pre-approval of CE courses discontinued

Because the Art Therapy Program now lists continuing education (CE) domains (subjects) in Oregon Administrative Rule, the Health Licensing Office (HLO) is no longer offering the option of submitting CE pre-approval requests for review. As long as the course content being offered can be tied directly to one or more of the domains listed in rule, there is no need for approval from the HLO to offer the course. Please review the Oregon Administrative Rules that oversee the Art Therapy Program for the list of acceptable domains.

For questions about continuing education, email hlo.info@dhsoha.state.or.us, or call (503) 373-2088.
