How to Order
Using the Virology/Immunology Test Request Form (OHA0042), in the "Molecular" section, check the "BIOFIRE GI: BioFire FilmArray Gastroenteritis Panel" box.
Availability
Public and private entities; approval by the Oregon Acute and Communicable Disease Prevention (ACDP) Program required prior to specimen submission.

Specimen Collection Details

Collection
Stool in Cary Blair media
Optimal Volume
Stool in Cary Blair media to the fill line on vial
Minimum Volume
1.0 mL Cary Blair stool suspension
Handling
Store specimens at refrigerated temperatures (2-8°C) pending transport. Avoid extreme temperatures.
Transport
Package specimens with fully frozen ice packs to maintain refrigerated termperatues during transport. Specimens must be tested at OSPHL within 4 calendar days of specimen collection. 
Rejection Criteria
Specimens not approved for testing or received late, such that testing cannot be completed within 4 calendar days.
 
Specimens are subject to the requirements of the OSPHL Specimen Submission Policy (pdf).
Comments
Original material submitted for testing is retained for 7 calendar days after receipt at the laboratory.

Specimens testing positive for reportable pathogens requiring OSPHL submission or those of public health significance will be referred for Enteric Pathogen Culture or STEC Culture and additional characterization. Applicable pathogens from this panel include: Campylobacter (jejuni, coli, and upsaliensis), E. coli O157, Enterotoxitenic E. coli (ETEC), Salmonella, Shiga-like toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) stx1/stx2, Shigella/Enteroinvasive E. coli (EIEC), Vibrio (parahaemolyticus, vulnificus, and cholerae), and Yersinia enterocolitica.
