How to Order

On the OSPHL Virology/Immunology Test Request Form, in the "Referral Testing/Send-Outs" section, write in the test(s) requested under "CDC Referral." 

AvailabilityAll clients, for confirmation of positive results from clinical laboratories

CDC pre-approval is required; coordinate approval through the Acute and Communicable Disease Prevention Section at 971-673-1111. Be prepared to provide the clinical and epidemiological history for the patient listed in the CDC Hantavirus Case Report Form (pdf).

Specimen Collection Details

Specimens for testing at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) must be sent to the OSPHL unless expressly directed otherwise by a public health official.
Collect, store, and transport specimens in accordance with the CDC Test Directory.
Transport all specimens to the Oregon State Public Health Laboratory for forwarding to CDC.

Rejection Criteria
Specimens are also subject to the requirements of the OSPHL Specimen Submission Policy (pdf).
CommentsSpecimens will be sent to CDC for New World Hantavirus Testing (serology).
